Abdullah Ibn Mubarak Quotes
?Abd All?h ibn al-Mub?rak (118/726-797 AH/CE; Arabic: ??? ???? ?? ???????) was born during the reign of Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik. ‘Abdullah ibn Mubarak was an early, pious Muslim known for his memory and zeal for knowledge, collected had?th (muhaddith), and was remembered for his asceticism. He earned the title Amir al-Mu'minin fi al-Hadith. His father, named Mubarak, was Turkish from Khurasan and became a client (maw?l?) of an Arab trader from the tribe of Ban? Han?ala in the city of Hamadh?n, and his mother was said to have been from Khw?rizm. Mubarak later married Hind, the trader's daughter. It is said that ‘Abdullah ibn Mubarak left his hometown of Merv, and while living in Hamadh?n, went on to visit and speak often in Baghd?d. Imam Ahmad said about Abdullah ibn Mubarak that there was no one more eager to travel for seeking knowledge than him. His teachers included Sufy?n al-Thawr? and Ab? Han?fa. He wrote Kit?b al-Jih?d, a collection of had?th and sayings of the early Muslims on war, and Kit?b al-Zuhd wa al-R?qa’iq, a book on asceticism. He was also known for defending Islamic borders (see Ribat) on the frontiers of Tarsus and al-Massisah, and later died at H?t, near the Euphrates, in the year 797 CE

I love the saliheen (pious people) even though Iâ??m not one of them, and I hate the taliheen (evil people) even though I (may be) worse than them.
The beginning of knowledge is the intention, then listening, then understanding, then action, then preservation, and then spreading it.
We are a people in more need of a little character than we are in need of an abundance of knowledge.
If i were to backbite against anyone, it would be about my parents for they have more right to my good deeds
